Kodak AXCIS Migration to CA-View

Kodak AXCIS migration to CA-ViewData Strategies Interchange is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Kodak AXCIS Migration to Broadcom’s CA-View.

The customer, a banking giant, had been using the MVS based Kodak AXCIS document management system, in conjunction with the Kodak Optistar storage system in their US data centers, for a class of legacy documents with very long retention.

In order to minimize risk and to reduce cost, the decision was made to migrate unexpired documents to the company’s standard corporate archival system, CA-View, formerly known as CA-SAR.

The first phase of this engagement required Data Strategies to go onsite at two of the client’s data centers in order to make backup copies on the encrypted hard disk of the archival media, a mix of 3480 and 3490E cartridge tapes and 14” Kodak optical platters. Using a secure courier service, the encrypted hard disks were subsequently shipped to Data Strategies’ facility in Houston, Texas for all further processing.

A particular requirement for this migration was that the Report Creation Date in CA-View would reflect the correct legacy date and not the current ingestion date. Data Strategies was able to accomplish this by delivering the migrated documents on CA-SAR unload tapes, which incorporated all legacy metadata, including timestamps. Upon loading these tapes, the target CA-View database is automatically updated with the correct legacy information.

An end-to-end test with SAR unload tapes corresponding to documents extracted from a test platter was concluded successfully. The next and final phase of the project will require the extraction of the remaining bulk of the documents from the Optistar tape and disk images for delivery on IBM 3592 cartridge tape in SAR unload format.
