Backup Data Migration

Veritas NetBackup to EMC NetWorker

May 07, 2014

NetBackup to NetWorker today announced the successful completion of a large on-site backup data migration project from Veritas NetBackup Migration to Dell EMC’s NetWorker.

The customer was maintaining a large archive of over 250 LTO-3 cartridges with sensitive data under Veritas NetBackup. As part of the customer’s strategy to standardize on EMC hardware and software, the contents of the NetBackup tapes needed to be migrated to the Dell EMC’s NetWorker platform. Data Strategies performed the migration task working closely with EMC and the customer’s staff.

Veritas NetBackup data Migration consisted of Unix and Windows file systems and application backups created through agents for Microsoft SQL, Oracle, and Lotus Notes. All unexpired data on NetBackup LTO-3 tapes were migrated to NetWorker 8 and were stored on LTO-5 cartridges. The target environment included an ADIC Scalar i500 Tape Library with 3 LTO-5 FC Drives and 133 Slots.

Data Strategies installed its off-line migration hardware platform at the Customer’s data center in Saudi Arabia and used its proprietary MediaGenie Proteus software suite for:
a) extracting (with on-the-fly de-multiplexing) NetBackup session fragments from the LTO-3 tapes;
b) restoring individual sessions to virtual clients;
c) creating NetWorker save sets on LTO-5 media.
