PRESS RELEASE

NetBackup Migration to NetWorker

NetBackup Migration to NetWorker for a Saudi Bank

March 08, 2017

NetBackup LogoData Strategies Interchange is pleased to announce the successful completion of  Veritas NetBackup migration to Dell EMC’s NetWorker for a major bank in Saudi Arabia.

The client had a large backup of sensitive data stored in nearly 400 LTO – 5 tapes. Standardizing the software with Dell EMC’s hardware tools for better compatibility requires migrating all data from NetBackup to NetWorker. DSI performed the NetBackup Migration in close collaboration with Dell EMC and end client’s staff to achieve this goal.

DSI migrated unexpired data on NetBackup LTO-5 tapes to NetWorker using LTO-5 cartridges. The backup data in question consists of Unix file systems and application backups created through agents for Oracle and Sybase.

Data Strategies Interchange installed its off-line migration hardware platform at the customer’s data center in Saudi Arabia and used its proprietary MediaGenie Proteus software suite for:
• Extracting (with on-the-fly de-multiplexing) NetBackup session fragments from the LTO-5 tapes;
• Restoring individual sessions to virtual clients;
• Creating NetWorker save sets on LTO-5 media.

Key points for this project:
  • Petabyte scale migration with around 150K backup images.
  • Segregating internal data transfers to our own dedicated network with this large-scale data transfer we were able to mitigate the possibility of client network overload.
  • By arranging target save sets in context with expiry date and data type, we were able to enable the media expiry by date.
