Mainframe DASD/Tape Data Migration

DSI Successfully Delivers Secure Mainframe Data Migration and Legacy Data Conversion :

Data Strategies Interchange (DSI) is pleased to share the successful execution of a Mainframe Data Migration initiative for a Major Energy Utility company in New York with critical data stored across virtual tape and DASD, in Mainframe environment.

Many mainframe installations accumulate decades of legacy data on tape archives. While much of this data is rarely accessed, regulatory and compliance requirements mandate long-term retention, and select datasets must remain readily available to migrated applications. Following mainframe decommissioning, accessing tape data becomes increasingly complex and costly—particularly due to the reliance on specialized hardware, software, and extensive control metadata.

This customer was managing the data using CA-1 TMS and TLMS. The migration covered three key mainframe applications, comprising many datasets and various copybooks.

Datasets stored on virtual tapes were securely FTPed to DSI DataArk Appliance, where DSI’s migration tool converted the data. The output files were transferred to Cloud storage to be accessed from Open system applications

Beyond migration, DSI’s Mainframe Data Conservation Services, powered by the DataArk Appliance, provide a long-term, open-systems repository that enables on-demand retrieval and conversion of mainframe tape data—eliminating the need to maintain aging mainframe infrastructure. For organizations planning a mainframe data migration, DSI delivers a secure, compliant, and future-ready solution. Further information on our Migration solutions can be found here.
