FileNet Document Archive Migration Projects

HOUSTON, TX, June 18, 2007 -- Data Strategies Int’l, Inc. today reported on two large data migration services delivered in the first half of 2007.

To Mobius ViewDirect

The first project, performed for a leading insurance company, successfully migrated the contents of a legacy FileNet archive to Mobius ViewDirect. Over twenty-eight million documents (TIFF and EXIF/JFIF images for a total of 3.5 Terabytes) were extracted and converted to the import format expected by the target application. The source media (over 700 TranLog optical platters) was processed in Data Strategies’ secure Houston facility.

In addition, a newly developed process was used to extract the annotations associated with the archived documents and convert them to XML files. Data Strategies’ data migration tools also generated the script files needed to automate the ingestion of the converted data into the target system.

To Oracle 10g Based Archive

The second project was part of a program of technological modernization of the archive of ‘Cedulas Catastrales’ of the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Data Strategies performed the migration of over seven million documents consisting of scanned digital images (TIFF files) from more than three hundred and eighty 12” optical platters (FileNet TranLog platters created on a legacy Unisys Infoimage Folder system) to a new Oracle 10g based archive. All the metadata associated with the documents was also converted.

The migration service was performed on-site using Data Strategies equipment, software, and staff. Its successful completion, in presence of difficult logistical circumstances, is a clear demonstration of the delivery capabilities of Data Strategies.

The proprietary PlatterImage Genie, Contents Genie, and Image Migration Genie software tools, used in these projects, are the result of a decade long effort by Data Strategies devoted to the development of high-performance and cost-effective processes for large-scale migration of archived data across media technologies, hardware platforms, and software products.
